Technical Activities & Societal Activities
In addition to three workshops and two DL programmes, this year PES-IAS chapter successfully conducted 21 programs (Technical – 18, Social -3) in collaboration with industry partners like SAS Powertech, Eaton , India Energy Storage Alliance [IESA] , MSEDCL and MCCIA. There is active contribution from 15 plus industry professionals/ experts in all activities of PES-IAS Chapter. Outcome is strong industry relations resulting into internships for students, scholarship for PG students [IESA] etc.
Technical Activities
- ‘Research opportunities in the field of Power Electronics’ for research aspirants and faculty members on 9th March by Dr. Sanjib Kumar Panda, Fellow IEEE and Director, Power and Energy Area, NUS
- Flagship Event of PES-IAS Chapter IEEE Pune Section – Late Shri. D.M. Tagare memorial expert lecture by Dr. Rahul Walawalkar, President and MD of Customised Energy Solutions on ‘Vision for making India a Global hub for R&D and Manufacturing of advanced energy storage technologies’ was organised on 1st April 2023. Large number of industry participants, faculty and students attended this lecture.
- PES-IAS Chapter organised, a series of 8 lectures during this year under India energy storage alliance (IESA) and IEEE student knowledge series internship program on various domains related to energy storage technology, e-mobility, renewable energy, microgrids, standards and allied aspects by eminent experts in the field. Response from students, faculty members and industry participants was appreciable.
- Visit to MCCIA for collaboration on activities such as Industry visit, Mentorship, Internship and Entrepreneurial activities for students on 15th April 23.
- PES execom members Dr. Surekha Deshmukh and Dr. Mandar Bhawalkar participated in PES Chapter Chair’s meet at Gwalior on 21 and 22 April 23.
- Industry visit was arranged to Eaton India Innovation Center on 8 July 2023. 16 participants from industry and academia visited Eaton.
- MCCIA Electronic Cluster Foundation (MECF) Visit was organised on 27th May 2023.
- The IEEE PES team was invited to Eaton Technology India for the IEEE Membership development drive under the knowledge management group on 13th September 2023.
- PES-IAS Execom members Dr. Surekha Deshmukh and PES-IAS Chair, Dr. Geetanjali Vaidya contributed in the Conference, “EMPOWERING THE FUTURE: INNOVATIONS IN ELECTRICAL POWER, AND SOLAR TECHNOLOGIES” on 16th September 2023.
- On 22nd Sept’23 ie on World Energy Storage Day (WESD), during a special session on ‘Skill Development and Capacity Building in Clean Energy Transition’ PES- IAS Chapter, in association with India Energy Storage Alliance [IESA] has announced the “IESA Emerging Tech Scholarship” for two research candidates across the country to encourage efforts and to attract talent in the Energy Sector. This scholarship consists of 50000 per candidate.
- Geetanjali Vaidya, Electrical Consultant at SAS Powertech Pvt. Ltd. delivered a lecture on “Power Quality Basics and Opportunities in Electrical Power Systems” JSPM’S JAYAWANTRAO SAWANT COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING on 23rd October 2023. Large number of students and faculty attended this lecture.
Societal Activities
Three societal activities were conducted as stated below:
- On the occasion of IEEE PES Day 2023 based on the theme “Powering a Climate Safer Future.”, PES-IAS Chapter conducted an activity ‘Blog Writing Competition’ for students during a week , 17th to 22nd April 2023.
- On the occasion of IEEE PES Day 2023 based on the theme “Powering a Climate Safer Future.”, PES-IAS Chapter conducted an activity ‘Poster Making Competition’ for students during a week , 17th to 22nd April 2023.
- On the occasion of IEEE PES Day 2023 based on the theme “Powering a Climate Safer Future.”, PES-IAS Chapter conducted an activity ‘Essay Writing Competition’ for students during a week , 17th to 22nd April 2023.
Future Plans
PES-IAS Chapter execom committee has planned to organise Seminars/ workshops on technical / societal topics such as ‘Smart and Advance technologies in distributed energy resources and e-mobility’, ‘AI applications in electrical power systems’, ‘Electrical Safety’, ‘Latest standards for electrical installation’ etc.
